BedLocker Features

Q. What are the major differences between the BedLocker and other Pace-Edwards tonneau covers?

A. First of all, the BedLocker has all the usual features of Pace-Edwards tonneau covers such as the stylish, flush-mount look, weather resistance, and the cover is made from padded polymer laminated to rigid aluminum panels with a scratch resistant finish on aluminum trim.

The BedLocker differences are:

  • It's 100% electric. It can be setup to retract by remote control or by a toggle switch in the cab of the truck.
  • It has an electromagnetic brake that will allow you to stop it in any position.
  • Like the JackRabbit, the BedLocker has a built in cargo light for added visibility at night.

Q. Is the BedLocker cover durable?

The BedLocker cover is made from one solid piece of padded polymer, laminated to ridged, heavy gauged aluminum panels. It is designed to endure both sun and cold year after year without stretching, shrinking, tearing, or cracking. It has the look and feel of real leather and all fasteners are hidden to give you that smooth, flush mounted look.

Q. How much does the BedLocker cover weigh?

A. On average, the canister portion of the BedLocker weighs between 90 - 142 lbs. and the rails weigh about 10 - 70 lbs. This, of course, depends on the size of your truck. Your order will arrive in two separate packages. One for the canister and one for the rails.

Q. Can I stand on the BedLocker cover?

A. The BedLocker cover is designed to handle about 150 lbs. of weight equally distributed. Having said that, it will not collapse under snow. We do not recommend you stand on the BedLocker cover. If you need the added height to attach or remove a ladder or other cargo from the top of your truck, simply open the cover and stand in the truck bed.

Q. Is the BedLocker cover water resistant?

A. Yes. The BedLocker cover channels water to the canister and out the drain tubes to protect your truck bed from the rain, snow, etc. Please be sure to properly seal all areas of your bed that may become exposed to the elements (tailgate, stake pockets, etc.).

Q. Where does the water drain to?

A. The drain tubes that connect to the canister are designed to channel the water they collect through the factory-provided drain holes in your bed. In the event your truck does not have factory drain holes, you will have to drill an opening in your bed to acommodate the drain tubes.

Q. How does the cover retract?

A. The BedLocker cover retracts and closes automatically with the flip of a toggle switch or the push of a remote control button depending on how you configure it.

It is rigid across, with multiple 2" hinged aluminum panels connected so the entire cover will roll around a reel inside the canister when it is retracted.

Q. Is the BedLocker secure?

A. The BedLocker can lock into position at any point due to its electromagnetic brake. It locks into the side rails at the tailgate. This prevents someone from removing the cover by taking the rails out.

By the way, if your truck is not already equipped with a locking tailgate, we offer the Pop & Lock Tailgate lock and the Powergate tailgate locks to help fully secure your truck bed.

Q. Are installation instructions included with the BedLocker?

A. Yes, your cover will arrive with application specific installation instructions.

Q. How long does it take to install the BedLocker cover?

A. Most people complete the installation of their BedLocker cover in 1.5 to 4 hours.

Q. Can the BedLocker be wired into my existing alarm system remote?

A. If the remote has the capability of tappning into the two input wires, one forward and one reverse, this can be done. The input wires operate on a negative trigger.

Q. If I use the Explorer Series rails, are the factory stake pockets still available on my truck bed?

A. These will be partially, if not competely covered up.

Q. How difficult is it to wire the BedLocker into the electrical system of my truck?

A. Every BedLocker comes with application specific installation instructions. We have never had a customer experience difficulty with this.

Q. Can the BedLocker be opened and closed from within the cab?

A. The BedLocker comes with a remote only, but a switch kit (part #BL-1120) can be added to your order to make opening and closing the cover from the cab possible.

Q. Do you ship to Alaska and Hawaii?

A. Yes, we do ship to both Alaska and Hawaii, however special shipping rates will apply since the order will have to leave the ground to be delivered. The shipping charge is $75 - $300 depending on the application purchased and your location. Please contact us for an exact amount.

Q. How long will it take for my cover to ship?

A. Your order will normally ship out the same day if you ordered before 2:30 PM EST. However, in some instances, it may take a few additional days depending on sales volume and whether or not the cover purchased is in stock or on back order.

Q. How large is the canister that the BedLocker retracts into?

A. The BedLocker canister is approximately 10" by 10" and roughly the same in depth.

Tool Box Questions

Q. I already have a toolbox in my truck. Can I still use a BedLocker.

A. Custom BedLockers are not made at this time.

If you would be interested in a Roll Top or JackRabbit and toolbox combination, check out the ToolTop by Pace-Edwards.

Q. Is there enough room under the canister to place a tool box?

A. The space in this area is very limited, however it is possible depending on your particular installation.

Bed Liner Questions

Q. My truck has a bedliner. Can I still use a BedLocker?

A. If you have a spray-in style liner, you can still use the BedLocker as long as the liner does not cover the rails of your bed. Otherwise you may have to file down the over the rail portion of the cover or cut it to accomodate the needed slots for the clamps to install.

Plastic liners almost never work properly without modifications because the corners are not flush against the bed, but rather rounded. We highly recommend the Bed Rug truck bed liner as a compliment to your cover.

Q. Can I use a BedLocker with the bed extender option?

A. If your truck has a bed extender option, you will not be able to use it the way it was intended if you install a BedLocker. You may have to physically dismount it and flip it around rather than rotate it. This is because the rails for the cover may block the rotation of the bed extender.

Q. What are the clamps made of?

A. Aluminum.

Q. How many holes do I have to drill in order to install the cover if I buy the drill installation?

A. You will need to drill between 12 and 20 holes to mount your cover depending on the installation.

Q. Can I mount a spoiler to the back of the cover?

A. Doing this will not only void your warranty, but it will make it impossible for the cover to fully retract the way it was intended.
